our story
Kids’ Kampus has been part of the Mt Eden community for more than 35 years.
The centre began in 1988, at a time when quality childcare options for very young children were limited. From the beginning, Kids’ Kampus was created to feel different from an institution. It was intended to be warm, homely, nurturing and deeply attentive to the needs of children and their families. What began as a small early childhood service has grown into a much-loved childcare centre with a long history of care, learning and connection. As families’ needs changed, Kids’ Kampus grew too. The adjacent property was purchased so the centre could offer a more seamless pathway for children, from the early years in Koru House through to preschool care in Kauri House.
Today, Kids’ Kampus continues to be a family-run centre with a strong sense of continuity, belonging and purpose. Many of the values that shaped the centre in its earliest days still guide daily life here: genuine care, trust, kindness, respect, responsibility and a belief in the unique value of every child.
Our environment is intentionally homely and personal. Children are known, families are welcomed, and learning happens through relationship, play, curiosity and confidence-building. We aim to create a place where children feel safe enough to explore, supported enough to grow, and loved enough to become fully themselves.
our values and goals

Our service is founded on Christian values. In practice, this means we actively promote qualities of character that enhance a sense of responsibility towards society and others. As we work in partnership with our families, we aim to realise the full potential in each child through the provision of a homely, nurturing, safe and stimulating environment where they develop and build self esteem, becoming confident and competent learners and communicators, identifying their natural strengths and gifts, while having a lot of fun along the way!
At Kid’s Kampus, our focus is more on children being given the tools to develop internal and social character –self-control, self discipline, personal safety, integrity, honesty, conscience, task completion, consideration of others, respect and self esteem. When children know who they are and have an understanding of their intrinsic value as young people, then the ability to learn naturally follows.
Children who leave Kids’ Kampus are confident and skilled to move forward into the next phase of their lives.
paying it forward
For many years, Kids’ Kampus has supported the work of Kiwis for the Himalayas, a New Zealand based charitable organisation working in partnership with communities in West Bengal, India.
The organisation supports practical programmes focused on children, healthcare and women’s opportunities. These include helping to feed, clothe and educate children in need, providing medical care through local clinics, and supporting women with opportunities to build skills and independence.
Kids’ Kampus is proud to be connected with work that reflects many of the same values we seek to nurture in our own community: care, dignity, practical support, education and hope.
The heart of this work is simple. People helping people, with integrity, accountability and a belief that small acts of care can make a lasting difference.

"Poverty is not only about a shortage of money, it is about rights and relationships, about how people are treated and how they regard themselves; about powerlessness, exclusion and loss of dignity. Yet, the lack of adequate income is at its heart."
