Welcome to Kauri House Preschool Centre
Kauri House is our preschool centre and is designed to challenge and extend the young child as they become eager to practise the growing range of skills they are developing. Young children will have the opportunity to explore freely within our generous spaces, both indoors and out, as they choose between the array of opportunities on offer to them.
Our beautiful bungalow has been organised to create comfortable and homely places for play. Children are able to gather in small groups or to work independently as they select the activities that are of interest to them. Each room has been carefully planned to encourage children to explore freely and to participate in hands-on activities.
Our extensive outdoor areas are a much cherished and revered asset at Kids' Kampus, and one that we are pleased to be able to share with you. Young children need LOTS of room to move, it is critical in stimulating brain development and supports us in growing active, healthy children.
Our day is structured to meet the varying range of needs that preschool children have. We provide a balance between child-initiated exploration and experiences that are introduced by teachers to support current areas of interest and investigation. Once or twice per day we gather together at mat time to share stories and news, or to sing, dance and make music.
Meal times offer children an opportunity to make decisions for themselves in choosing when to eat during our rolling morning and afternoon teas, as well as the ability to do their own dishes. At lunch time we all sit together, enjoying the social interaction that gathering around food provides. Preschool children who require a rest or sleep during the day are able to do so in a quiet, undisturbed manner while other children play separately.
Each child is allocated to a group within the centre and will have some key teachers responsible for providing their learning programme. This is developed through careful observations and enables teachers to plan new and exciting experiences that will entice children to participate throughout the day.
Each child will also have a portfolio maintained by the teachers that will share their learning journey with you. You are welcome to read about your child's time with us at any time, and we encourage you to add to your child's portfolio and share their learning outside of the centre whenever you wish.
The Kauri House programme encourages children to explore freely within boundaries, meaning they actively take responsibility to care for the environment and others. Teachers provide activities that promote fine and gross motor skills, support the development of language and encourage an appreciation of the arts. We believe that hands-on experiences provide the best learning opportunities for children, and they are actively encouraged to try new things, to persevere when a task is difficult and to share their skills with peers once they become an expert.
Links are made to the local community through our regular trips to Three Kings where we're able to access the library and a range of local amenities such the pet shop and supermarket. These experiences support learning in the centre and the projects we're investigating or perhaps a new recipe we might like to try. Catching the bus to Three Kings is a very special experience and one that all KK children look forward to sharing in when they're ready.
Preschool children in Kauri House will be able to access a wide range of materials to explore, including puzzles, blocks, construction sets (Lego, Mobilo), play dough, water and sand play, books, dramatic play and more.
